Breathtaking Editorial Wedding Inspiration at Somerley House

There is a unique kind of magic to a stately home setting, especially when the timeless grandeur of the venue is paired with a perfectly relaxed, modern romance. We recently had the immense privilege of second-shooting alongside the Springles to capture a truly jaw-dropping editorial concept at the magnificent Somerley House. From the sweeping gravel driveways and sunlit courtyards to the impossibly romantic candlelit banquet setting, the day was a masterclass in elegant storytelling and design.

Setting the Scene at Somerley House

Somerley House provides a canvas of absolute aristocratic grandeur. The exterior of the house, with its classic stonework, manicured lawns, and ancient oak trees, offered a pristine backdrop for the daytime portraits. We utilised the beautiful sunlit colonnades and classic stone urns to frame our subjects, giving the images a timeless, cinematic quality.

However, the true showstopper of Somerley House is the spectacular Picture Gallery. Stepping into this room feels like stepping back in time. With its towering pipe organ, soaring ceilings, and walls lined with historic, gilded portraits, it provided an awe-inspiring space to showcase the breathtaking banquet styling and evening aesthetic.

The Vibe and Aesthetic: Relaxed Editorial Meets Historic Grandeur

The styling of this day was a beautiful exercise in contrast. While the venue itself is highly formal, the vision for this concept brought a wonderfully relaxed, fashion-forward energy to the narrative. Our bride looked incredibly chic in a flowing gown with delicate tie-straps and a beautifully tiered skirt that caught the wind effortlessly during the outdoor portraits. The groom perfectly matched this modern aesthetic in a classic black suit worn with an open-collared white shirt effortlessly cool against the historic backdrop.

This sophisticated edge carried through to the floral design and tablescapes. A striking, minimalist bouquet of deep, velvety burgundy blooms took centre stage. This rich colour was echoed brilliantly in the Picture Gallery, where the long banquet tables were adorned with hundreds of glowing white pillar candles, antique gold candelabras, and tall, dramatic red taper candles. The resulting atmosphere was intimate, moody, and deeply romantic.
