Sun-Drenched Summer Wedding at Place House, Truro
There is nothing quite like a Cornish wedding at the height of summer, especially when the skies are a perfect, unbroken blue. We recently had the absolute pleasure of second-shooting alongside the Springles for a truly spectacular and joyous celebration at Place House in Truro. From the roaring confetti exit at the church to the tranquil moments spent walking along the coastal estuary, the day was a beautiful blend of historic grandeur and relaxed, sun-drenched romance.
Setting the Scene at Place House, Truro
Place House is a remarkable venue, boasting striking yellow-stone architecture that feels entirely unique to the Cornish landscape. The sweeping lawns provided the ultimate setting for a massive, cheering group photo of all the guests basking in the summer heat.
However, one of the best elements of this location is its proximity to the water. Taking the couple away for a few quiet moments to walk along the water's edge with sailboats bobbing in the background under the bright midday sun provided a gorgeous, tranquil contrast to the high energy of the reception.
The Vibe and Aesthetic: Elegant, Coastal, and Joyful
The styling for the day was wonderfully elegant with a relaxed, modern edge. The bride looked breathtaking in a fluid, draped satin gown with delicate off-the-shoulder detailing and a sweeping veil that caught the coastal breeze perfectly. Complementing her look, the bridal party wore a gorgeous, eclectic mix of mismatched dresses in shades of cornflower blue, soft pink, pale yellow, olive green, and rich magenta.
The groom looked incredibly sharp in a classic navy suit paired with a light blue tie and grey waistcoat, perfectly echoing the coastal surroundings. Later in the evening, the couple cut a beautifully simple fruit-adorned cake in front of a personalised backdrop of hanging polaroids, highlighting the deeply personal, family-focused vibe of the day.
Capturing the Day
Working as a second photographer with the Springles is always an inspiring experience, allowing for a multifaceted approach to documentary storytelling. The bright, vivid summer light played a huge role in the gallery's aesthetic, yielding rich, vibrant colours during the waterfront portraits and the ecstatic, high-energy confetti toss outside the historic stone church.
To balance the vibrancy of the summer sun, we also focused heavily on timeless black-and-white imagery to strip away the distractions and focus on pure emotion—perfectly encapsulated in the candid, laughter-filled moments of the cake cutting.
