Botanical City Wedding at the Barbican Conservatory, London
There is a completely unique energy to a central London city wedding, especially when it takes place in one of the capital's most iconic architectural landmarks. We recently had the absolute pleasure of second-shooting alongside the Springles for a truly spectacular and stylish celebration at the Barbican Conservatory. From the towering brutalist concrete exterior to the hidden tropical oasis inside, the day was a masterclass in striking contrasts, urban elegance, and unforgettable entertainment.
Setting the Scene at the Barbican Conservatory, London
The Barbican is a venue unlike any other. The day began against the backdrop of its famous, textured brutalist architecture, which provided a beautifully raw and graphic canvas for portraiture. However, stepping inside the Conservatory completely transforms the atmosphere.
Suddenly, you are surrounded by thousands of species of tropical plants, towering palms, and cascading ferns. This dense, lush greenery housed beneath a massive glass roof provided an incredibly rich, cinematic setting for the couple's portraits and the reception. It is the perfect location for couples who want a botanical feel without leaving the heart of the city.
The Vibe and Aesthetic: Urban Botanical with a Twist
The styling for this wedding perfectly complemented the dramatic setting. The bride looked incredibly elegant in a classic, off-the-shoulder A-line gown paired with a magnificent, flowing veil that caught the light beautifully as she moved through the tropical walkways. The groom opted for a highly stylish, modern look in a rich, dark brown three-piece suit that perfectly grounded the botanical colour palette.
The ceremony styling was a true standout feature. Rather than traditional floral arches, the couple exchanged vows in front of a stunning installation of oversized, sculptural white paper blooms. This playful yet artistic backdrop framed the joyful, emotion-filled ceremony perfectly especially during their triumphant confetti exit down the aisle! As the day transitioned into the evening, the couple surprised their guests with casino tables, including blackjack hidden right among the jungle foliage, adding a fantastic layer of high-energy fun to the reception.
Capturing the Day
Working as a second photographer with the Springles allowed for a deeply layered documentary approach to this wedding. The Barbican offers immense visual variety, allowing us to capture the rich, moody greens of the conservatory in vibrant colour, while also leaning into timeless black-and-white photography for the quieter, intimate moments—such as the beautiful, sweeping shots of the bride's veil and the quiet, loving glances shared during the ceremony. The resulting gallery is a dynamic mix of editorial-style architectural portraits and raw, authentic storytelling.
